Studies have shown that we spend a third of our life sleeping. Based on the average life expectancy, that’s almost 20 years that we spend in our beds. It only makes sense that we want to stay comfortable during that time. If your mattress is giving you problems, it’s time to consider buying a new one.

When To Buy A Orthopedic Mattress

I was nearly 30 years old before I bought my first bed. After moving out of my parent’s house, I slept on an air mattress to try and save some extra money. I was a broke college student, so whenever the bed popped, I would just buy another. Eventually, I was given a boxspring mattress from a friend. This was definitely an improvement. After years of sleeping on that old thing though, my back was killing me. This is a telltale sign that it was time for me to replace my mattress. Some other signs it might be time to upgrade include the following;

• Back, Hip, Shoulder Pain
• Feeling Exhausted In The Morning
• Snoring
• Allergies
• Insomnia
• Lumps Or Bumps In Mattress

I kid you not, when it came time to replace my bed, I was suffering from all those effects. I was sluggish in the morning, my whole body ached, and my allergies were out of control. That’s when I decided to do some research on the best bed I could buy for my budget.

Popular Types Of Mattresses

If you’re looking to buy a good orthopedic mattress, it’s important you know which type to get. Before I went shopping for my new mattress, I thought there were only one or two different types. It turns out that I was wrong, there are several different types of beds out there.

Open Spring

Open spring mattress is what I always thought of when I pictured a bed because it was what I was sleeping on. These mattresses are also known as open-coil or continuous-coil mattresses because of the use of metal springs inside the bed. These metal wires help to give the bed it’s bounce.

Because this is a cheaper mattress, it’s best for those on a budget, beds for kids, or to put in guest rooms where the mattress won’t be used too much.

Memory Foam Gel

This bed is made of foam that molds to your bodies shape. It also has hypo-allergenic properties to help those suffering from allergies. This bed is a good choice for those who are waking up with aches and pains. Since the mattress is made of foam, it relieves pressure on your joints and spine. Typically, when you’re looking for an orthopedic mattress, they’re made of memory foam.

Latex

These beds are firmer than memory foam and coil mattresses are. They also weigh more, making flipping the bed a little trickier. They possess hypo-allergenic qualities and is a good choice for those suffering from asthma or allergies.

Top 5 Best Orthopedic Mattress

Now that you know the types of beds there are to choose from, I’ll give you my top picks. I looked at a lot of mattresses when I was shopping around for mine, so I’m confident that these beds are some of the best.

Snuggle-Pedic

Snuggle-Pedic is a medium to firm mattress that is great for back, stomach, and side sleepers. It molds to your body like memory foam does, but the foam is softer. This makes the bed easier to turn or flip when needed.

This bed is designed to be cooler so you won’t wake up in the night sweating. The cover is made from micro-vented natural ivory bamboo for maximum breathability.

The Snuggle-Pedic is hypoallergenic and dust might resistant, making it perfect for people suffering from allergies like I was. You can get a queen mattress reasonably priced.

iDealBed iQ5

The iDealBed iQ5 is made using smart foam that’s designed for you to achieve the optimal sleep. This bed is made to give you a feeling of floating and relaxation when used. The cover of the mattress is made of breathable material while the second layer is made of gel memory foam to help relieve pressure on your joints.

This bed is also adjustable on both sides. It comes with a back-lit remote that has 19 settings on it. Some of the settings include zero gravity, lounge, flat, and anti-snore.

This is the mattress I dreamed of getting. unfortunately, it was out of my price range for a split king mattress. Still, if I ever win the lottery, I’ll definitely be getting it.

Chime Express Hybrid Innerspring

The chime express mattress is different from the other two beds because it comes in a box. It’s a hybrid mattress designed with memory foam but is firmer than the previous two. It has 805 coils in it, all designed for maximum lumbar support. The top of the bed is a quilt foam cover that I thought was really comfortable. The bed is also hypoallergenic meaning that there is no maintenance if you have allergies or asthma.

This bed is great for those who are on a budget. Making it one of the most pocket friendly choices I came across. I personally like the firmness of the bed. The cover is still soft and foam-like, but the extra firmness gave my back more support and helped to take the pressure off my hips and shoulders.

Turf And Needle Mattress

Next on my list is the turf and needle mattress. I’m not going to lie, this is the bed I ended up falling in love with. The mattress is rated 5 stars on nearly every selling site, and all the reviews I read for the product were positive.

What I really love about this mattress is that it’s not too hot or too cold. When I was using my old bed, I use to wake up in the middle of the night sweating. Sometimes I would even have to get out of bed and change my clothes because my bed was so hot I was sweating through my pajamas. This bed isn’t too hot or too cold, it’s just prefect.

Another thing I liked about this mattress is that it fit my current frame so I didn’t have to worry about getting another one.

Overall, I would highly recommend this bed if you’re looking for the best orthopedic mattress. It’s made of supportive foam which helps to keep my spine aligned properly. After only a few days of using it, all my back pain had disappeared.

The turf and needle mattress costs a mid-range cost, very reasonable.

Nectar Memory Foam Mattress

I first became interested in the nectar memory foam mattress when I heard that it had won the USA Today’s title of best mattress of the year. Turns out that was only one of the awards this bed had won. It’s also won Mattress Advisors best value award and best overall mattress for 2020.

The nectar memory mattress is that one everyone’s seen on tv. Someone places a glass of wine on the bed, proceeds to jump on the mattress, yet the wine doesn’t spill. This is because the bed was designed to have minimum motion transfer.

This bed is perfect for couples who sleep together but toss and turn in the middle of the night. Not only will you no longer wake your partner up, but odds are you’ll be tossing and turning a lot less on the quilted cover. The website claims that it’s so soft you’ll want to make a snow angel on it.

This is the only mattress I didn’t get to try in person. I read about it a lot online, but when I went to my local mattress store, they had just sold out of it. Still, from what the 19,000 reviews say, this mattress makes a great bed. It retails higher than others for a queen, but also comes with free products. These include a mattress protector, sheet set, and two pillows.

There you have it, my top five mattresses. No matter which type you get, I would highly suggest researching the product before you buy it. There was so much about beds that I didn’t know about, and researching the products online was my saving grace. In the end, I ended up with a great new mattress which has provided me with less back pain and better sleep. For the first time in years I don’t wake up achy or tired. I couldn’t be happier with my selection
